Sedation dentistry uses medication to help you relax during a dental visit. It’s commonly used for patients who feel anxious, have a strong gag reflex, struggle to sit still comfortably, or need more involved treatment.
Sedation dentistry may help you:
Sedation is not the same as “being put to sleep” in most cases. It’s more about feeling calm and relaxed.
Sedation may be a good fit if you:
If you’re not sure, we can discuss your concerns and help you decide whether sedation is appropriate.
Sedation dentistry isn’t one single thing—there are different levels, and the right option depends on your health history, anxiety level, treatment type, and how long your appointment will be. At Axiom Implant & Specialty Dentistry, we’ll review what’s appropriate and safe for you and explain exactly what to expect before, during, and after your visit.
Nitrous oxide is a mild form of sedation that helps patients feel relaxed during treatment. It’s inhaled through a small mask and typically wears off quickly after your appointment.
Often helpful for:
Oral sedation uses a prescribed medication taken before the appointment to help reduce anxiety and make treatment feel easier. Many patients experience drowsiness or deep relaxation.
Often helpful for:
Important note: Oral sedation often requires that you have someone drive you to and from your appointment.
IV sedation is administered through a vein and can provide a deeper level of relaxation. Many patients remember little of the appointment. This option is typically used for patients with higher anxiety or more involved procedures.
Often helpful for:
Important note: IV sedation generally requires a driver and specific pre-appointment instructions.
Even with sedation, we typically use local anesthetic (“numbing”) so treatment is comfortable. We can also discuss comfort-focused strategies such as pacing, breaks, and clear step-by-step communication.
During your consultation, we’ll review:
Then we’ll recommend the best-fit option and provide simple pre- and post-visit instructions (including whether you’ll need a driver).
We review your medical history, medications, and anxiety level to determine whether sedation is appropriate.
We create a clear plan for your visit—what will be done, how long it may take, and what the recovery process will look like.
We follow a comfort-focused approach, monitor you throughout your visit, and keep the process calm and predictable.
Depending on the sedation type, you may need someone to drive you home, and you may feel drowsy afterward. We’ll provide clear written instructions.
Your safety comes first. We tailor sedation recommendations to your needs and health history. If sedation isn’t appropriate for you, we’ll discuss other comfort options to make your visit easier.
If you’ve avoided the dentist, we get it. We focus on helping you feel comfortable—not rushed or pressured.
We explain what we’re doing, what you’ll feel, and what comes next—so there are no surprises.
We accept most major PPO and HMO plans, and we offer financing options for qualifying patients.
Our office is conveniently located, making it easy to reach us from Las Vegas, Summerlin, The Lakes, Canyon Gate, Peccole Ranch, and the surrounding area.

Dr. Malik has done a great job working me through with care on a couple of implants…Jenn, one of the hygenists, did a great job on my recent cleaning and got me started on a new mouthwash …and Susan, on the admin side, does an incredible job extracting every possible dollar from the insurance companies…overall, a great practice!
I had an unfortunate event occur at my regular dentist. I was completely devastated, scared, overwhelmed, frustrated, embarrassed and over the amount of trips and money to fix a mistake that had happened. To which at this point Matt from Axiom implant & oral surgery stepped in, to the rescue! He was so kind and considerate, confident and compassionate, honest and so informative! He took on such a difficult situation and gave me all my options and was willing to go the distance to fix a mistake he had no knowledge of prior. His staff and associates are all very knowledgeable and very family oriented and made my husband and I feel right at home. I have had to have multiple procedures to correct a lot of trauma that happened to just one tooth. My front tooth! Yes I was mortified! From the start I was made an Invisalign that had a tooth in it that I could wear so that I would not be so embarrassed to talk or go out. The flipper is the proper term. From then I new from the sense of urgency by everyone there I would be ok. I had an infection cleared I had a bone graft, I had a metal post surgically implanted as well as several months of healing between each procedure and e rays to insure that this was getting done RIGHT! He was always so positive with the information given and his staff always had the same energy! They are all awesome human beings! Yesterday I had my new tooth installed and I couldn’t be more impressed nor happy about how it all came together! This Man is an Artist! Truly talented at what he does. And the lab got it right! Finally quality and reliability in a Dentistry I’ve never had before. The vibes in the office are so uplifting and dope. And everyone there is so amazing. Thank you to you all.
